ORLANDO, Fla. Austin Cody of North Charleston, S.C., leads the HP Boys Junior Championship at 5-under-par 67 at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the HP Boys Invitational is a 72-hole stroke play event being held at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The tournament field consists of 78 boys, ages 12-18, from 24 states and four foreign countries. The field is playing the par-72 course, home of the PGA TOUR's Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, at 7,277 yards.
Cody's round featured seven birdies and two bogeys. Three of those birdies came consecutively on Nos. 4, 5 and 6.
The three birdies gave me a big boost of confidence from the start, Cody said. I just putted well and only had one birdie putt over 10 feet.
Cody, who hit 16 greens in regulation on Tuesday, said he hopes to maintain the lead tomorrow by continuing to hit fairways and greens.
Michael Jae Woo Im of Irvine, Calif., sits in second place at 3-under-par 69. In a four-way tie for third at 2-under-par 70 are Ryan Thornton of Chattanooga, Tenn., Ben Kohles of Cary, N.C., David Sanders of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and Aaron Sherry of Fort Myers, Fla.
