RODGERS CAPTURES TITLE BY EIGHT SHOTS AT 4-UNDER-PAR 209
Martindale wins back-to-back at TPC Southwind with 3-over-par 216

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Brandon Rodgers of Knoxville, Tenn., captured his first AJGA title by an eight-stroke margin with a three-day total of 4-under-par 209 at the Stanford Financial Junior Championship hosted by David Gossett. Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City, Tenn., finished at 3-over-par 216 to win the title in consecutive years.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Stanford Financial Junior Championship hosted by David Gossett was a 54-hole stroke play event held at TPC Southwind. The tournament field consisted of 59 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from 20 states and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,944 yards, while the Girls Division played at 5,990 yards.

After opening the tournament with a 5-over-par 76 on Tuesday, Rodgers shot rounds of 6-under-par 65 and 3-under-par 68 on the final two days.

“I didn’t really make many adjustments after Tuesday,” Rodgers said. “I just worked on finding the fairway and I did an awesome job of that the final two rounds.”

Austin Cook of Jonesboro, Ark., and Jacob Everts of Ooltewah, Tenn., finished in a tie for second place at 4-over-par 217.  In a four-way tie for fourth place at 5-over-par 218 were Taylor Meadows of Boerne, Texas, Grant Milner of Knoxville, Tenn., Landon Lyons of Baton Rouge, La., and Marcel Puyat of Bradenton, Fla.

Martindale’s eight-shot victory made her only the second girl to successfully defend an AJGA title in 2008.

“It feels great and it makes it even better that it’s in my home state,” Martindale said. “It’s one of those things where it’s your own territory and you want to defend it.”

Amelia Lewis of Jacksonville, Fla., finished in second place at 222.  Rounding out the top-three at 229 was Melissa Edmonson of Coral Gables, Fla.
