SECOND ROUND OF MAYORS JUNIOR ALL-STAR INVITATIONAL CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER
Final Round scheduled for Monday shotgun
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. β After a five and a half hour weather delay, the second round of the Mayors Junior All-Star Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather in the Palm Beach, Fla., area. Final-round play at The Country Club at Mirasol will resume Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Mayors Junior All-Star Invitational is a 36-hole stroke play event being held at the Sunset Course at The Country Club at Mirasol. The 77-player field features players from 19 states, Canada and South Africa. The par-72 course is being played at 6,904 yards for the Boys Division, and 6,008 yards for the Girls Division.
Threatening weather forced evacuation of the golf course at approximately 8:10 a.m. after only two groups had left each of the starting tees. After more than five hours of delay, the Tournament Committee decided to cancel the round due to continuing weather concerns and the lack of necessary time to reasonably complete a round on the Sunset Course.
βIt's unfortunate that Mother Nature didn't cooperate today,β Tournament Director Whitney Ross said. βOur No. 1 priority is the safety of our members while playing as much golf as we can. We are hoping for clear skies and 18 holes of golf tomorrow.β
Austin Roberts of Carmichael, Calif., will take Boys Division lead into the final round after firing a 4-under-par 68 in the first round. In the Girls Division, Yueer Cindy Feng of Orlando, Fla., will set the pace for the field after shooting a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday.
