KENT LEADS SCISSORTAIL JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP AT 4-UNDER-PAR 140
Stewart leads Girls Division by six strokes heading into final round at Emerald Falls Golf Club

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Cody Kent of Castle Rock, Colo., kept hold of his lead after carding a two-day total of 4-under-par 140 at the Scissortail Junior Championship. In the Girls Division, Alexandra Stewart of Peoria, Ariz., carded a 1-under-par 143 to sit atop the leaderboard.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Scissortail Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Emerald Falls Golf Club. The field consists of 97 players, 74 boys and 23 girls, from 14 states and Taiwan. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 7,004 yards and the Girls Division at 6,094 yards.

Kent was off to a good start with his first birdie of the round on No. 1. He continued that streak with help from his putter, carding three additional birdies including one on No. 5.

“I was putting really well today,” Kent said. “On No. 5, I sank a 50-footer.”

Kent has high hopes going into the final round.

“Hopefully tomorrow I will play well with fewer mistakes and less mental errors,” he said.

Chris Worrell of Enid, Okla., stands alone in second at 1-under-par 143. In a six-way tie for third at even-par 144 are Jesse Droemer of Sealy, Texas, Brock Wilson of Beaumont, Texas, Ben Peacock of Caledonia, Mich., John Cassidy of Tulsa, Okla., Seiji Liu of Bradenton, Fla., and Alex Ellis of Austin, Texas.

Much like Kent, Stewart was off to a strong start in the Girls Division with a birdie on No. 1 as well. It was solid play and her work on the green that helped her achieve her low two-day total.

“My putting helped me make my birdies today,” Stewart said. “I made a lot of short par putts as well.”

Brittany Mai of Poway, Calif., is in second at 5-over-par 149. Rounding out the top three is Taylor Ramsey of Augusta, Ga., carding a 6-over-par 150.
