KIM IS VICTORIOUS AFTER A SIX-HOLE SUDDEN DEATH PLAYOFF AT LESSING'S AJGA CLASSIC
Fu takes back the lead to claim victory at Rockaway Hunting Club

LAWRENCE, N.Y. — Zhong Yang Fu of Bradenton, Fla., took an early lead Tuesday after posting the low score of the tournament during the first-round at 4-under-par 66. Fu fired back in the final round to take the lead and win by three strokes at the Lessing's AJGA Classic. Kyung Kim of Chandler, Ariz., went into a sudden death playoff and finished with a three round score of 5-over-par 215 to take home the trophy in the Girls Division.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Lessing's AJGA Classic was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Rockaway Hunting Club. The tournament field consisted of 75 Boys and 24 Girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states and 4 countries. The par-70 course was played at 6,333 yards for the Boys Division and 5,742 yards for the Girls Division.

Fu carded birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 6, 7, 14 and only three bogeys en route to capture his first AJGA victory with a three round score of 3-under-par 207.

“I had a great start this morning which made my game easier, half way to victory,” said Fu. “No. 14 was my best hole, it was challenging because of the wind and the far left hole location which was close to the water, it was difficult but I birdied so I was happy.”

David Pastore of Greenwich, Conn., took second place at even-par 210. Andrew Kim of Lake Mary, Fla., finished in sole possession of third place with a three-round score of 1-over-par 211. Rounding out the Boys Division was Jonathan Renza of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and Samuel Buchman of Los Angeles, at 4-over-par 214.

In the Girls Division, Kim and Harin Lee of Bayside, N.Y., went head to head in the final round to force a sudden death playoff. Kim made par on the sixth play-off hole to come out on top and finish 2-over-par 72 in the final round.

“On No. 18, Harin and I were tied, I hit my drive in the fairway then my second shot went in to the bunker then I hit the green,” said Kim. “I left my first putt ten feet short so when I dropped that putt it was important because it forced a playoff.”

Kim, a 2008 second-team Rolex Junior All-American kept making up and downs to help her gain confidence in her short game and win her second AJGA event.

Lee placed second with a three-round total of 5-over-par 215. Two strokes back in third place is Jaye Marie Green of Boca Raton, Fla. Lee and Green all posted low final-round scores at even-par 70.
