The AJGA is no stranger to PGA TOUR venues, but this week’s conditions at Redstone Golf Club’s Tournament Course rival any site on the AJGA schedule. We’re less than six weeks away from the TOUR’s Shell Houston Open, and the facility is already expertly groomed, ready to test the world’s best professionals as well as the world’s best juniors.
Coming from a very brown and dry Georgia winter, the plush green fairways and rough in Houston is a welcomed sight to all AJGA staff members. Tournament logos line the driving range, grandstands are within days of completion, and live scoreboards are up and running on Nos. 18 and 11, and each adds to the PGA TOUR atmosphere.
The atmosphere is only enhanced by the community support we’ve received this week. The Houston Golf Association has helped us every step of the way, lining up volunteers for the week and allowing us to set up Tournament Headquarters in its First Tee facility. Since Tuesday, three sets of golf clubs and dozens of practice balls have been donated to The First Tee of Houston/Redstone, a tangible sign that the community supports junior golf.

Hi everyone, it's Jane Rah here, your new player representative. I know that the Polo Golf Junior Classic isn't exactly finished yet (well it is for me....thanks Marika!), but I just wanted to post my top 14 list on what makes this tournament so great! Yes, mine is 14 only because I wanted to have four more than David Letterman.
14. The activites. I know it was a total last-minute thing, but Larry came up with a pretty interesting activity. Partner Pitch Shot Switcharoo.
13. The snacks, finally a variety on the first and tenth tees, thanks to Courtney Jones and Larry Berroya.
12. The electronic scoreboard. Thank you to Tim McBride and Scott Rheinhold for keeping all the scores updated.
11. The volunteers, thanks to everyone coming out during this Thanksgiving week.
10. The gifts. Finally my first Rolex watch! Just kidding.
9. The hospitality. Thanks to the amazing staff at the Ginn Reunion Resort.
8. The special guests, thanks to Annika Sorenstam for joining us during the Rolex Banquet and Morgan Pressel for making time at the POLO Champions Dinner.
7. The Rolex Banquet, aka "The Greatest Night in Junior Golf."
6. The staff, thanks for spending your Thanksgiving week with us juniors.
5. The Care For The Course Party, the biggest turnout of the year. Having two courses and all the divots taken during the practice round, thank you to all the juniors that came out.
4. The pony trophies, thanks to Tournament Director Andrew Greenfield, AJGA Director of Purchasing Jeremy Rider and the awesome people at Polo!
3. The course. Thank you to Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson for making two wonderful golf courses.
2. The weather, no rain! Maybe Walker is good luck after all.
1. The field, 160 juniors, WOW! when does that ever happen?
Hope you enjoyed my Top 14 List and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

| Media Day at the Polo Golf Junior Classic |

If Thursday's media day is any indication, media coverage should be strong at the Polo Golf Junior Classic next week. With representatives from Golfweek, The Golf Channel and four TV stations in Orlando attending, the AJGA's year-ending tournament is shaping up to grab media attention.
This looks to be a continuation of the recent AJGA media success. Thanks to the efforts of the Communications Department, the vast majority of Rolex Junior All-Americans and HP Scholastic Junior All-Americans received media coverage in their hometowns.
Changing subjects:
I must say - the AJGA juniors are lucky that Jay Coffin (Editor, Goflweek Digital Media/Video) is not in this week's field. Coffin's media day began with him holing a 95-yard shot from the fairway on the Legacy Course. After that, it was a just a big dart-throwing contest between him and his partner Stacy Oleck (Advertising Director, Golfweek Digital). Stacy played college golf at Florida State and still brings the thunder.
Meanwhile, I and my partner Eric Soderstrom (who needs no introduction) never got the engine started. 1-down, 2-down, 3-down, 4-down. We walked off the 8th green 8-down. And just when we thought we were doomed to a worst-possible outcome - the dreaded 10-and-8 loss, we capitalized on a rare mistake by Coffin/Oleck, winning the ninth hole with a par. Sadly, it was a one-hole letdown and the match ended shortly thereafter.
Of course, Eric will be out at Ginn Reunion Resort everyday covering the Polo Golf Junior Classic, so all tournament participants are encouraged to give Eric their best advice. Watch out Jay and Stacy!

Just one day after the completion of the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic, the AJGA has left Cancun with a sense of accomplishment after running its first Open event in Mexico.
As the final putt dropped Monday afternoon, Mexico was well represented among the top of both leaderboards. Juan Pablo Hernandez of Mexico City turned in his third top-five performance of the season, finishing in second place at 2-under-par 208. In all, three Mexican players finished in the Boys Division top 10, as Diego Castilla of Monterrey finished fifth and Rodolfo Cazaubon of Tampico finished 10th.
The Girls Division top 10 also featured three Mexican players, led by a second-place finish by Tampico’s Alicia Malagon at even-par 213. Margarita Ramos of Mexico City finished tied for fifth and Paola Valerio of Atizapan Zaragoza finished 10th, giving Mexico six top-10 finishes overall for the week.
The growth of the game in Mexico may be evident by the leaderboards, but it’s only a glimpse into the potential of junior golf South of the Border. After Sunday’s second round, the Mayakoba Golf Classic hosted the first “Golf Para Todos” (Golf For Everyone), a grassroots initiative aimed at teaching the game of golf to residents of the Playa del Carmen community.
Despite an afternoon shower/downpour, more than 250 people showed up for some Snag golf, informal golf lessons, free use of the driving range, music and food. Each month, Golf Para Todos will feature a special guest, with 2006 Mayakoba Golf Classic winner Fred Funk scheduled to appear this winter.
With the exciting week now behind us, the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic exhibited Mexico’s best junior golfers and generated interest among the local community, making the AJGA’s first Open event in Mexico a great success.
