AJGA Tournament Operations and Communications Internships

The AJGA is looking for talented and well-rounded applicants to serve as tournament operations and communications interns. The tournament operations and communications internship is an entry-level position and applicants must be at least 20 years old prior to May 16, 2011. The interns will travel extensively throughout the United States during the internship to help conduct national junior golf tournaments. The AJGA hires more than 50 interns between our spring and summer internships to help the full-time staff conduct more than 85 events throughout the year. Tournament Operations Internship Job Responsibilities

  • On-course rules officiating
  • General tournament set-up and preparation
  • Golf course set-up and preparation
  • Starting and scoring of players
  • Monitoring equipment inventory, maintenance and replenishment
  • Public speaking

Communications Internship Job Responsibilities

In addition to the above duties, Communications interns will:

  • Post results and news releases
  • Prepare each tournament’s printed materials
  • Tournament photography
  • Distribute results to local and national media
  • Update the AJGA’s website
  • Media and public relations

Internship Details
Spring: March – May 2011; Summer: May – September 2011 (end dates vary depending on your school schedule). Interns are paid $200/week for the spring and $225/week for the summer, and the AJGA will cover all lodging and food expenses, as well as most travel expenses. This internship may be used to receive college credit. Polo Golf/Polo Ralph Lauren uniforms, Under Armour shoes and Bolle sunglasses will be provided for all interns.

You will need to submit a cover letter, resume, state government-issued three-year (minimum) driving record and three recommendation letters. If you are interested in being considered for the communications internship, you will need to submit three AP Style writing samples in addition to the other requirements. These items may be submitted all at once or separately via mail, e-mail or fax (770-868-4211 or 678-425-1653).

Priority Deadline: November 12, 2010 Applicants for the spring must apply by the November deadline.
Final Deadline: January 7, 2011

Finalists for the spring and summer internship will be required to attend a recruiting weekend in Atlanta, February 25 – 27, 2011 The AJGA will provide lodging, food and reimburse a portion of travel expenses.

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
