Three Things Thursday: Rolex Tournament of Champions

By Tim Jackman (@AJGAJackman ), AJGA Communications

The third round of the Rolex Tournament of Champions  begins Thursday at Reynolds Lake Oconee on the Great Waters Course in Greensboro, Georgia. Here are Three Things to look for during the third round.

Cut Day

After Thursday’s third round, the field will be cut to the low 39 boys and ties and the low 27 girls and ties. Before the third round, the cut for the boys is +7 while the cut for the girls is +9.

A Tough Start

For the Boys Division, hole No. 2 has played the hardest through the first two rounds, and the front nine for the boys has been difficult, with only No. 6 playing under par. For the Girls Division, the hardest hole is No. 10, but the front nine has been playing more than a stroke harder through the first two rounds.

Building Momentum

Rolex Girls Junior Championship winner Gina Kim and Haas Family Invitational champion Eugene Hong have set themselves up well for a shot at back-to-back Invitational wins. Kim is in third place, while Hong sits at T7. If Kim wins, she would be only the fourth player to win both Rolex Championships in the same year, joining Hannah O’Sullivan (2015), Alison Lee (2013) and Kellee Booth (1993).
