Geminiani Fires Back-to-Back 70s to Take Lead in Boys Division at Weston Hills Country Club
Liu and Walsh Sit Atop Girls Division at AJGA Florida Junior

WESTON, Fla. — Domenico Geminiani of Bradenton, Fla., equaled his first round total of 2-under-par 70 to sit as the leader in the Boys Division of the AJGA Florida Junior after the second round. Marika Liu of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Kailey Walsh of Boca Raton, Fla., are tied in the Girls Division with 8-over-par 152s.

The AJGA Florida Junior is a 54-hole tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at the Weston Hills Country Club — Tour Course. The event features 56 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from six states, China, the Philippines, Paraguay and Columbia. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 6,871 yards while the Girls Division is playing the course at 6,004 yards.

Geminiani has hit 6-under-par in his last two trips to the back nine. He credited his round today to his irons.

“My irons were really working for me today,” Geminiani said. “I hit a lot of greens and set myself up for a lot of birdie chances.”

Parker Jones of Gainesville, Fla., and Keith Greene of DeBary, Fla., both are 2-under-par with a total of 142. Jones shot an even par and Greene carded a 2-over-par 74. Nicholas Maruri of Mexico City shot a 1-over-par 73 to sit in third with a two round total of 1-under-par 143. Robert De Biase of North Miami, Fla., carded a 1-over-par 73 to land him in fifth place with a two day total of even-par 144.

Liu battled the high winds and managed to shoot a 7-over-par 79.

“It was really hard to judge where the ball was going to go because of the speed of the winds,” Liu said.

Walsh made up a lot of ground on the lead. She was four strokes back after round one and with the help of a couple of birdies, she now stands tied for first.

"I was really consistent through the front nine," Walsh said. "I hit some good approach shots and was able to get some good distance."

In the Girls Division, there are five players, Alexandra Perez of Miami, Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Vivian Hsuan Chen of Bradenton, Fla., Kristine Odaiyar of Ocala, Fla., and Ashley Malinchak of Parkland, Fla.,

tied for third place with at 9-over-par 153. The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

Thursday's final-round tee times for the AJGA Florida Junior will run from 7:30 — 9:18 a.m. off of tee Nos. 1 and 10 at Weston Hills Country Club — Tour Course. For more information, please call Tournament Director Sean Riley at (678) 617-2420.
