Hossler Captures First AJGA Open Victory at Trader Joe's Junior Championship Hosted by Pat Hurst
Lee edges Nhim in playoff to capture win in Girls Division

Pleasanton, Calif. — Beau Hossler of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., clinched the Boys Division at the Trader Joe's Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst, sinking a 4-foot putt on No. 18 to beat Shotaro Ban of San Jose, Calif., and finishing at 8-under-par 202. Esther Lee of Los Alamitos, Calif. carded a 2-under-par 68 and tournament total 2-over-par 212 to force a playoff against Kristina Nhim of Buena Park, Calif., and win the Girls Division.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Trader Joe's Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst was a 54-hole stroke-play event held at Castlewood Country Club on the Hill Course. The 99-player field featured 72 boys and 27 girls, ages 12-18, from ten states, Canada, China, Mexico, Hong Kong and the Philippines. The Boys Division played the par-72 course from 6,197 yards and the Girls Division played from 5,529 yards.

Hossler, who tied for tenth at the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior last month, was able to edge out the competition, sinking an 8-footer on No. 15 to tie for the lead.

“The back-nine of my second round really got me back into the tournament and I made a lot of clutch putts today,” Hossler said. “This is a huge stepping stone for my career. I've been working hard on my game to get an AJGA win and it means a lot to me.”

Shotaro Ban of San Jose, Calif., finished in second place at 7-under-par 203. Chenxiao Duan of Beijing, China finished in third place at 6-under-par 204. Justin Pagila of Dublin, Calif., had a tournament total 3-under-par 207 to finish in fourth place. Eric Sugimoto of San Diego and Nick Thomas of Westlake Village, Calif., tied for fifth place at 2-under-par 208.

In the Girls Division, Lee had eight birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1&2, 11& 12 and a chip-in on No.17 for birdie.

“After Rolex Girls Junior Championship, I decided I really needed to work on my putting,” Lee said. “I was able to focus and make a lot of putts today. It feels great to finally win one and I'm looking forward to more tournaments.”

Kristina Nhim of Buena Park, Calif., finished in second place at 2-over-par 212. Irina Paulin Gabasa of Cebu, Philippines finished in third place at 3-over-par 213.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.
