Lagodich, Toste tied atop Boys Division leaderboard at AJGA Stonehenge Junior Open
Weaver leads Girls Division by two strokes at Stonehenge Golf & Country Club

WINONA LAKE, Ind. — Logan Lagodich of Canton, Ohio, and Zachary Toste of Pembroke Pines, Fla., share the lead in the Boys Division at the AJGA Stonehenge Junior Open after each player fired an opening-round 5-under-par 66. In the Girls Division, Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., sits atop the leader board with a 4-under-par 67.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Stonehenge Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play event with a 36-hole cut at Stonehenge Golf & Country Club. The tournament field consists of 111 boys and 34 girls from 14 states and three countries, Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia. The Boys Division plays the par-71 course at 6,801 yards while the Girls Division plays at 6,044 yards.

Lagodich, who hit 10 fairways and had seven birdies Tuesday en route to a first-round 66, said the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club suited his game nicely.

“I'm comfortable because it's really wide open,” Lagodich said. “You look out there and, to me, it just looks like a lot of fairways to hit at. Anytime you're in a fairway, it's going to set you up with an easier shot.”

Toste, whose round featured an eagle on the par-4 No. 4, also said he felt comfortable in the opening round, but for an entirely different reason.

“I think having my coaches from Notre Dame come out to watch me really helped a lot,” said Toste, who verbally committed to the Fighting Irish in early spring. “They helped me keep my head level.”

Adam Wood of Zionsville, Ind., sits alone in third at 4-under-par 67. Tied for fourth at 3-under-par 68 are: Colin Proctor of Anderson, Ind., Bobby Jacobs of Valparaiso, Ind., Sebastian Barnoya of Guatemala, Guatemala, Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Tyler Ostrom of Warsaw, Ind.

Coming off a successful Wyndham Cup, in which she won 3 of 4 matches, Weaver continued her solid play Tuesday and said she is already preparing for her next major AJGA event.

“This is my last tournament of the summer actually because I start school next week. I'm kind of using this to build confidence so I'll feel better about my game heading into the (PING Junior) Solheim Cup, even though it's kind of far away,” Weaver said. “I'll take whatever happens this week and improve my game for Ireland.”

Catherina Li of Kent, Wash., is two strokes back in second after carding a 2-under-par 69 and Alexandra Harkins of Crystal Lake, Ill., sits in third at 2-over-par 73.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 500 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Inbee Park and Morgan Pressel.

The second round of the AJGA Stonehenge Junior Open tees off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees from 7:30 — 9:30 a.m. for the first wave and the second wave tees off from 12:30 — 2:20 p.m. at the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club. For more information, please contact Tournament Director Curt Haag at (678) 995-4322, or visit tournament headquarters located in the Pro Shop at the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club.
