Talley goes wire-to-wire, Sets AJGA record at AJGA Girls Championship
Talley notches four-shot victory at The Furman Golf Club

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., shot a tournament total 4-under-par 212 at The Furman Golf Club to win the AJGA Girls Championship wire-to-wire. With the victory, the three-time Rolex Junior All-American sets the AJGA girl's record for most consecutive wins at four.

The AJGA Girls Championship was a 54-hole stroke-play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Furman Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. The 78-player field featured golfers from 16 states and 10 countries, who played the par-72 course at 6,124 yards.

Talley began her summer in strong form with victories at the AJGA Junior at Quad Cities, Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior and AJGA Franklin Junior, before adding her fourth at the AJGA Girls Championship, the only all-girls Open event on the AJGA schedule. In setting the record for most consecutive victories at AJGA events, Talley passed Juliet Vongphoumy (2010), Leigh Anne Hardin (1999) and Kim Rowton (1998), with whom she was previously tied.

“It feels great. I know there's a lot of great players I was tied with, so just to be named with them is an honor,” Talley said. “I've been working really hard this summer, and it feels so good to see it paying off.”

Talley, who made her first appearance at the U.S. Women's Open this year, led the AJGA Girls Championship through all three rounds, her lead never falling below two strokes.

“There are a lot of great players here, so this has been really exciting,” said Talley, who will compete in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in Ireland later this month. “I've been playing well coming into this tournament, so it is nice to keep it going.”

Tied for second was Hee Wook Choi of San Diego, Andrea Lee of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale, Ga., each with a tournament total of even-par 216. Alone in fifth was Shannon Aubert of Reunion, Fla., with a 2-over-par 218.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries.
