Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, The AJGA Junior at Innisbrook is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. The 210-player field features players from 30 states and five foreign countries The Boys Division is playing the Copperhead Course at 7,330 yards, while the Girls Division is playing the North Course at 5,800 yards.

Scott's solid play included hitting 11 fairways and 14 greens in regulation. The only player to break par, Scott birdied Nos. 1 and 4 to get off to a strong start on a day that was highlighted by a 20-foot putt for birdie on No. 13.

“I hit the fairways today, which was big because I didn't have to play from the rough,” Scott said. “I putted solid—I didn't make many, but I hit the putts I was supposed to.”

Cody Proveaux of Leesville, S.C., and Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Ind., are both tied for second after shooting even-par 71s. Rounding out the Boys Division are Cyril Suk of Bradenton, Fla., John Foster of Concord, Ontario, and Marshall Talkington of Jackson, Tenn., all tied for fourth three shots back of the leader with 1-over-par 72s.

After a third-place finish at the 2009 AJGA Junior at Innisbrook, Butler's familiarity with the course helped propel her to a share of the first-round lead.

“I know this course really well, but I still had to play well,” Butler said. “The greens were rolling really well and I putted well which helped.”

Shon capitalized on a combination of consistency and a course that fits her game well to take a share of the lead.

“The course is not too long,” Shon said. “I don't have to struggle to reach the green with my approach shots—and it's not Bermuda grass.”

Simin Feng of Orlando, Fla., scored a 1-over-par 71 and sits in third place in the Girls Division.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. The second round of the AJGA Junior at Innisbrook begins Saturday at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. Tee times for the Boys Division run 8 - 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 - 2 p.m. off Nos. 1 and 10 tees on the Copperhead Course, while the Girls Division tee times run from 8 - 9:48 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10 tees on the North Course.
