Familiar Names on Top of the Leaderboard at Lockton Kansas City Junior
Winslow, Detlefsen remain in the lead at Kansas City Country Club

MISSION HILLS, Kan. — Joseph Winslow of Overland Park, Kan., and Sara Detlefsen of Eagan, Minn., both remain on top of the field after the second round of the Lockton Kansas City Junior. Winslow, who held a share of the lead yesterday, fired a 3-under-par 67 to claim the lead to his own in the Boys Division. Detlefsen shot a 1-over-par 71 and holds a one-stroke lead in the Girls Division for the second consecutive day at Kansas City Country Club.

The Lockton Kansas City Junior is a 54-hole stroke play tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan. The tournament field consists of 99 boys and girls ages 12-18 from 16 states and Thailand. The Boys Division is playing the par-70 course at 6,764 yards while the Girls Division is playing at 6,054 yards.

Winslow, who sits at 4-under-par 136 for the tournament, had just one bogey on the day, and feels the key to playing well at Kansas City Country Club is to have a good back nine. He has been able to do just that, turning in 2-under-par 33 on the back nine in each of the first two rounds.

Despite his four-shot lead, Winslow knows he has a lot of work left ahead of him.

“There are still great players out there who are going to play well on this course tomorrow and I have to go out there and work my tail off,” Winslow said. “You can't get into a mentality of being too relaxed on this course because there are too many things that you have to do correct.”

Harry Higgs of Overland Park, Kan., and Michael Decker of Pebble Beach, Calif., are tied in second place at even-par 140 for the tournament. In fourth place is Donald Stimble of Shell Knob, Mo., at 2-over-par 142, and Charlie Saxon of Tulsa, Okla., is in fifth place at 3-over-par 143.

Detlefsen credits solid ball-striking and some extra time spent on the practice putting green has paid off as she paces the Girls Division with a two-day tournament total of 1-over-par 141. She plans to head in to the final round with the same mindset that has got her to this point.

“As always I'm going to try to hit good shots, make my putts, and go through the process—my process, and play my game,” Detlefsen said. “I know that if I can play up to my standards and the way I like to play then I can do really well.”

Chasing Detlefsen in the Girls Division is Jordan Lippetz of Bradenton, Fla., who is in second place at 2-over-par 142 for the tournament. Patricia Lee of Lone Tree, Colo., will begin the final round in third place at 4-over-par 144.
