O'Leary Leads Second Round at Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out
Marks looks for first AJGA win at Plymouth Country Club

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Patrick O'Leary of Milton, Mass. leads the Boys Division after round two, with a score of even-par 138. Samantha Marks of Maitland, Fla., carded back-to-back single-round scores of 3-over-par 72, leading the Girls Division with a tournament total of 6-over-par 144.

The Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth, Mass. The tournament field consists of 96 players from 18 states, including Ontario and Mexico. The Boys Division is playing the par-69 course at 6,228 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 5,855 yards.

O'Leary played a consistent round with ten pars and six birdies. He kept the ball in the fairway and capitalized on his wedge shots.

“I played a really solid round,” O'Leary said. “I had quite a few uphill putts, which are important to have on this course.”

O'Leary plans to rely on his putting to card another solid round on Thursday.

Samuel Kim of Irvine, Calif., and Ben Balter of Wayland, Mass., tied for second with tournament totals of 1-over-par 139. In fourth, Jimmy Dengler of Rumson, N.J., posted a second-round score of 2-over-par 140.

Marks made 13 pars and one birdie during the second round of the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out. She hit a few shots that she would like to have back, but was able to finish strong. During the final round, she hopes to play smarter on the greens.

“Par is crucial for me tomorrow on this course,” Marks said. “I need to stop trying to hit right at the pin, and instead think smarter about the greens.”

Going into the final round, Marks continues to remind herself to have fun, and keep in mind this is just a game.

“It feels good to be in the lead, this is what I have been working for,” Marks said. “I haven't won an AJGA event yet, and I hope tomorrow will be the day.”

Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Conn., finished second in the Girls Division with a two day total of 10-over-par 148. Tied for third are Alexandra Hershberger of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Sammi Lee of Winter Park, Fla. The two carded tournament totals of 11-over-par 149.

The final round of the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out will start at 7:00 A.M. off the No. 1 tee for the Boys and Girls Divisions.
