PING Junior Solheim Cup Points Update

The all-girl team is beginning to take shape based on points

In 2002, an exciting new event took place. The inaugural PING Junior Solheim Cup brought 12 of the very best European girls to the United States for a team match play event. With incredible support from PING, hp and the LPGA, the 2002 event was conducted at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins, Minn., in the days preceding the Solheim Cup. A strong U.S. team was victorious in the inaugural event, but the rematch is coming quickly. In 2003, the second installment will take place in Sweden, where the Solheim Cup will be staged.

Once again, each side will be represented by 12 highly talented girls. The U.S. squad will be selected through a ranking system that awards points based on top tournament finishes.

The United States team will consist of the top 10 girls in the Solheim Points Standing and two captain’s picks. The U.S. team will be announced at the beginning of August. All girls must be United States citizens and have a high school graduation date of 2004 or greater (2005, 2006, 2007, etc.). Proof of citizenship will be requested upon acceptance onto the U.S. squad.
