2005 AJGA Schedule to Kick Off with Ashworth Junior Series Events
Continuing with tradition, the 2005 AJGA season kicks off with Ashworth Junior Series preaseason events, March 18-20. The first three tournaments will be held in Diablo Grande, Calif., Braselton, Ga., and Kingwood, Texas. Two more Ashworth events will be held in Fredericksburg, Va., and Garland, Texas, April 1-3.

Applications for all of the Ashworth Junior Series preseason events will be available Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. EST.

All fields will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 84 players that apply. Traditionally, Ashworth Junior Series events have been open to boys only. However, the Ashworth Junior at Oakridge will feature a 21-player girls field. Fifty percent of each field will be reserved for 2006 graduates, until Thursday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. EST. The fields for these events will be posted on Friday, Feb. 11.

The AJGA’s Ashworth Junior Series is a series designed specifically for first-time AJGA members or those members who have not yet participated in an AJGA Open Event, AJGA Invitational or Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series event in the current calendar year and/or the previous calendar year.

For those who are eligible, participation is limited to one preseason event AND one postseason event per calendar year as long as they have not yet participated in an AJGA Open event, AJGA Invitational or Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series event.

An Easter Tradition...
The AJGA is accepting applications for the three Easter Weekend Open events, which will take place March 25-27. The Easter events will be held in The Woodlands, Texas, Mesa, Ariz., and at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga., home to the AJGA's National Headquarters. The deadline for applying to these events is Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. EST.

Each event will have an 18-hole Srixon Qualifier on Thursday, March 24. The qualifier fields will be filled with a maximum of 100 players on a first-come, first-served basis, Applications for the qualifiers will be available Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. EST.

Ward, Granada Take Hard-Fought Titles at Orange Bowl; Von Borsig, Mozo Win
Doral-Publix
Christopher Ward of McKinney, Texas, and Julieta Granada of Asuncion, Paraguay, each won closely contested victories at the 41st Annual Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship on Dec. 31.

Held at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla., the event featured several AJGA members, including champions Ward and Granada, who continue their impressive play after stellar 2004 campaigns. Ward rallied to defeat Spain's Jorge Campillo on the second playoff hole, while Granada took the lead on the back nine to beat Boca Raton, Fla., native Morgan Pressel by two strokes.

In other holiday action, Conrad Von Borsig of Swarthmore, Pa., and Belen Mozo of Cadiz, Spain, won their respective divisions at the Doral-Publix Junior Classic, Dec. 23 at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami. Von Borsig defeated fellow AJGA member Jon Curran by a stroke, while Mozo bested Alejandra Llaneza by three shots to take the girls division title.

The AJGA Annual Review, a comprehensive look at the 2004 AJGA season is nearing publication and will be distributed to AJGA members in late February. Be on the lookout for this publication, which will fully illustrate one of the greatest years in junior golf!
