Dunlop, AJGA Team Up

Dunlop Carolina Junior Championship Slated for First Week of June

Global sports equipment brand Dunlop joins forces with the American Junior Golf Association in 2003 as title sponsor of the Dunlop Carolina Junior Championship. The tournament, in its third year, will be held at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C., June 2-5.

"The AJGA has worked to make this the top junior golf association in the world, and as a South Carolina-based company, we're particularly excited about playing a key role in such a prestigious event," said David Leverant, chief operating officer of Dunlop's U.S. equipment licensee Focus Golf Systems. "This gives Dunlop a great opportunity to interact with some of the pros of tomorrow, as well as to showcase some of our premium equipment for the serious junior golfer."

The 54-hole event will feature nearly 100 of the top juniors from South Carolina and around the nation, and will be preceded by a qualifier on June 1 that will give 100 additional players a chance to earn entry into the tournament field. Last season, juniors traveled to Greenville from 16 states, Canada, Mexico and Singapore to compete in the event.

"We're really excited Dunlop has gotten involved in this national event," said Tournament Chairman Marshall Bettendorf. "Their support will benefit junior golf both in our area and on a national level."

Among the world's best-known athletic brands for over 90 years, Dunlop balls and equipment have been played by some of the legends in sport to win 22 golf "Majors" and two Grand Slams in tennis. The company continues to develop leading edge technologies to meet the performance needs of golf and tennis enthusiasts at all levels of play. Dunlop's U.S. headquarters, as well as its world-class golf ball research and manufacturing facility, are located in the Greenville, S.C., area.
