Ripa Named Tournament Director for Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

Peter Ripa, AJGA assistant executive director, has accepted a position with the PGA TOUR as the Tournament Director for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, officials of Colonial Country Club announced Monday.

The 2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial will be held May 21-27.

"The Colonial Board is excited to bring Peter into our organization," Club President Bill Bowers said. "His tournament and sponsorship skills will be a great asset for us."

During his 16 years with the AJGA, Ripa served in various roles including the chief operations officer, assistant executive director and regional director. Most recently, he was responsible for the marketing, promotion and sponsor relations for 30 tournaments run by the organization.

"I'm really excited to be involved with a tournament that has the history and success of Colonial," said Ripa. "I think this event is very, very special."

The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is the longest-runing PGA Tour event still held at its original site, and the 2007 tournament will be the 61st. Ripa will begin his new post in January.
