Junior Round-up

The U.S. Women's Open is being held this week at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. There are more than a few familiar names who hope to make history. Twelve AJGA juniors will be making an appearance among the professionals beginning Thursday.


Rolex Girls Champion Esther Choe will compete in the U.S. Women's Open this week.

Esther Choe of Scottsdale, Ariz., Megan Grehan of Mamaroneck, N.Y., Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., Taylore Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz., Ayaka Kaneko of Honolulu, Hawaii, Stephanie Kono of Honolulu, Hawaii, Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, Stacey Kim of Columbus, Ga., Joanne Lee of San Carlos, Calif., Sydnee Michaels of Temecula, Calif., Jane Rah of Torrance, Calif., and Maria Jose Uribe of Hilton Head Island, S.C., will all be competing.

Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., will compete this week in the PGA TOUR's Buick Championship in Cromwell, Conn. He received the exemption to play in the event after earning 2005 Rolex Junior Player of the Year honors. The event will be staged at TPC River Highlands.

Uihlein is off to a good start to the 2006 season. He won the season-opening AJGA Craig Ranch Junior and has gone on to finish in the top ten three additional times. He finished second by one stroke at the FootJoy Boys Invitational last week.

Amateur Round-up

UCLA rising sophomore Tiffany Joh took home the title last weekend at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links. The San Diego, Calif.,-native earned the honors after defeating AJGA junior Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii. After 31 holes of match-play competition, Joh beat her opponent 6 and 5.

Joh was named a first-team All-American after her freshman year at UCLA by the National Golf Coaches Association.
