Capitol Federal to Sponsor AJGA Event in Kansas City

Lockton/Capitol Federal Kansas City Junior to be held Aug. 7-10

Capitol Federal, the premier residential lender and savings bank in Kansas, will co-sponsor the Lockton/Capitol Federal Kansas City Junior to be held Aug. 7-10, 2006, the American Junior Golf Association announced Tuesday. The event will be held at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club in Prairie Village, Kan.

The 99-player, 54-hole event will feature the nation’s top junior boys and girls, ages 12-18. The Lockton/Capitol Federal Kansas City Junior will include a Srixon qualifier on Sunday, Aug. 6 and a Junior-Am fundraising tournament on Monday, Aug. 7 at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club. The Junior-Am will be a donor’s chance to tee it up with golf’s next generation while also contributing to a worthy cause. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Junior Golf Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the AJGA Foundation. Over the past decade, AJGA Junior-Ams have raised more than $1 million for junior programs in communities across the United States, including $240,000 in 2005 alone.

The first round of the event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, while the second and final rounds will be staged on Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 10, respectively. Tee times will run from 7- 11:57 a.m. off the No. 1 tee on all three days.

“Capitol Federal is happy to begin an association with the AJGA,” said Capitol Federal Foundation President Jack H. Hamilton. “We feel our sponsorship of this tournament affords youth the opportunity to learn golf and its etiquette. It is a great way to prepare them for life and to encourage their pursuit of college scholarships to enhance their educational and golfing experiences.”

For over 110 years, Capitol Federal has provided customers with excellent financial products and the best in local, professional service. Through Capitol Federal Foundation, Capitol Federal is able to further its support of its communities, extending grants to higher education, community development, the United Way and other traditional community giving.

“We welcome the relationship between Capitol Federal and the AJGA,” said Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president of corporate partnerships. “The support of Capitol Federal will assist juniors with their overall growth and character development while giving them an opportunity to showcase their skills to college coaches in this prestigious championship.”
