Applications Now Being Accepted for Team Event At Superstition Mountain

Cleveland Golf / Srixon Boys Team Championship hosted by Jim Furyk to be held May 1 - 3

BRASELTON, Ga. – The American Junior Golf Association is now taking applications for the Cleveland Golf / Srixon Boys Team Championship hosted by Jim Furyk to be held May 1 – 3 at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz. Applications may be submitted via the AJGA Player Center.

One of the most unique events on the AJGA schedule, the Cleveland Golf / Srixon Boys Team Championship is a 54-hole team competition. Formats for the three rounds will be modified scotch, foursomes, and four ball. The event will boast 36 teams of two juniors each, setting the stage for a memorable week of golf.

“We are excited that Cleveland Golf is joining us this year to put on this unique event,” West Regional Director Larry Berroya said. “The special format ensures that this tournament is one of the most competitive and fun weeks on the AJGA schedule.”

Tournament activities will begin Friday, May 1 with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun practice round. Tournament rounds will begin on Saturday, May 2 with first-round tee times off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees from 8 a.m. through 9:20 a.m. The second round will commence later that afternoon with tee times running off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees from 1:30 p.m. through 2:50 p.m. Final-round action will begin Sunday, May 3, with tee times running from 8 a.m. through 9:20 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. An awards ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Hosted at the scenic Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club, the tournament will take place on the Jack Nicklaus designed Prospector Course. Selected by Golfweek as one of the Top 100 Residential Courses, the Prospector Course has been the home of LPGA Safeway International as well as the 2002 Countrywide Tradition tournament.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and more than 30 foreign countries.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
