Cory Whitsett won the 52nd Northeast Amateur at Wannimoisett Country Club with a tournament total of 10-under-par 266. Whitsetts 10-under-par 266 was the third best in tournament history.
A three-time Rolex Junior All-American, Whitsett competed in AJGA events from 2005-2010. He collected 18 top-5 AJGA finishes with four victories, including the 2008 Rolex Tournament of Champions.
A rising senior at Alabama, Whitsett was a two-time first-team All-SEC choice. Whitsett has three career individual titles and made the championship-clinching team point for Alabama at the 2013 NCAA Championship. The 2012 and 2013 Elite 89 winner led the Crimson Tide with a scoring average of 70.84 this season.
Collin Morikawa of La Canada Flintridge, Calif. posted all four rounds in the 60s en route to a five-shot victory over Dylan Meyer of Evansville, Ind. at the 2013 Western Junior. Morikawa shot 13-under-par 271 to win his first his first Western Junior.
No. 35 in the Polo Golf Ranking, Morikawa has competed in AJGA events since 2010. He has eight top-10 finishes, including a T9 at the 2013 FJ Invitational.
Ashlan Ramsey of Milledgeville, Ga., won the Womens Western Amateur with a 7-and-6 victory in a 36-hole final match at Dayton (Ohio) Country Club. This is Ramseys third consecutive amateur victory, with victories at theGeorgia Womens Match Play Championship and the Womens Eastern Amateur coming in the last few weeks.
During her junior career, Ramsey compiled 17 top-5 AJGA finishes including victories at the 2010 Burgett H. Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic and the 2009 TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior All-Star at Chateau Elan presented by Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
A three-time Rolex Junior All-American, Ramsey will compete at Clemson University in the fall.
Lauren Diaz-Yi of Thousand Oaks, Calif., defeated stroke-play co-medalist Doris Chen of Bradenton, Fla., 10 and 9, in the 36-hole final of the U.S. Womens Amateur Public Links Championship at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. This margin of victory was the largest in championship history.
Diaz-Yi will compete at the University of Virginia in the fall.
Current Rolex Rankings No. 1 Inbee Park won her fifth LPGA title this year after shooting a 4-under-par 67 for a 12-under-par 201 at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P & G. In this weeks U.S. Womens Open, Park will be looking to take home her third major title of the year.
Park, the 2002 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, won eight AJGA titles from 2001-2005. Her most notable victories came at the 2002 Rolex Girls Junior Championship and 2003 Rolex Tournament of Champions. Park holds five Rolex Junior All-America honors.
Chesson Hadley shot a 7-under-par 64 on Sunday to win the Rex Hospital Open with a 19-under-par 265. The two-stroke win was his first as a professional. Hadley played for the AJGA from 2004-2006. A two-time Rolex Junior All-American, Hadley recorded four top-five finishes and two wins, including a victory at the 2005 Golf Pride / David Leadbetter Junior Classic.
