PGA TOUR

Sunday at Muirfield proved to be the perfect setting for Phil Mickelson to capture his fifth major championship title and his first at the Open Championship. In his final round, Mickelson birdied four out of the last six holes, cruising past the final-round competition with a 5-under-par 66. He finished the tournament with the only sub-par score of 3-under-par 281.

His school record of 16 tournament titles, including NCAA Individual titles in 1989, 1990 and 1992, has yet to be surpassed. Mickelson’s accolades also include three PAC-12 Player of the Year honors and three Haskins Awards.
