The AJGA will announce a tournament award winner each week leading up to the AJGA's Annual Meeting and the announcement of the Digger Smith Award.
Local organizers of the E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship, which took place at Jones Creek Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., July 25 28, 2011, have earned the Most Improved Award from the American Junior Golf Association. The Most Improved Award is given annually to an AJGA tournament committee that goes above and beyond to improve on the efforts from the previous year, ultimately giving tournament participants and parents a superior experience.
Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual media coverage, Junior-Am fundraising tournament, charitable giving, volunteer base and hospitality. The AJGA also recognizes its golf professional of the year, best new tournament, best Invitational, and overall tournament of the year.
Tournament Chairman Dan Troutman and Jones Creek Golf Club owner Ray Mundy were instrumental in the execution of the E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship. They secured more than 100 volunteers, saw that tournament signage was upgraded, and provided breakfast and lunch to tournament participants. Players were also given a tournament money clip which served as admittance into the locker room, and the locker room was staffed with a professional attendant. Furthermore, at tournament registration, participants received a welcome letter from Vaughn Taylor and Jones Creek.
