Despite having begun her AJGA career just over a year ago, 14-year-old Sierra Brooks of Sorrento, Fla., finds herself preparing to represent the East Team at the Wyndham Cup.

“I could have never imagined two years ago that I would be playing in this event,” Brooks said.

After winning in her debut appearance, Brooks competed at eight additional AJGA tournaments in 2011 and won two Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series events, which helped her earn honorable mention Rolex Junior All-America status.

Following a stellar 2011 season, Brooks received an invitation to the Rolex Tournament of Champions, where her T6 finish helped her move to No. 31 in the Polo Golf Rankings and secure one of the two remaining spots on the East Team.

Within two years, Brooks has worked her way up to competing in four AJGA Invitationals this season: the ANNIKA Invitational, Rolex Girls Junior Championship, Rolex Tournament of Champions, and now the Wyndham Cup.

“I knew going into the event that I had to perform well to make it to Wyndham Cup, but my family and friends encouraged me and told me I could do it. I was really surprised when I made it,” Brooks said.

Brooks, the youngest female member of her team, is one of four Florida natives that will represent the East Team. Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, which will host Wyndham Cup, is located in Orlando, Fla., just 40 minutes away from Brooks’ hometown.

“I’ve told a lot of my friends and people from the club about the event and I think a lot of people will come watch wearing their red to support the East,” Brooks said.
