Justin Clement of Lexington, N.C., shot even-par in the final round of the Cardinal Amateur to win his first amateur event by one stroke over fellow AJGA alum Scott Harvey.  Clement, who plays college golf at UNC-Greensboro, won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Tournament in 2009 and competed in the AJGA’s FJ Invitational in 2008 and 2009.

Claiming back-to-back titles, Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ontario, won the Canadian Amateur Aug. 10, held at Camelot Golf and Country Club.  Before achieving amateur success, the recent Kent State graduate finished in the top-15 at the AJGA’s Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands in 2007. The GCAA Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in October and was the individual medalist at the 2011 MAC Championship.

The AJGA was well represented at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, Aug. 6-12, as 11 current AJGA players and 10 alumni made it to the match play round of 32. Of those, five current members and five alumni advanced, with Jaye Marie Green competing in the championship match against Lydia Ko.

All eight players who qualified for the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Team based on points boast impressive golf resumes dating back to their AJGA days. Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson will all return to the Ryder Cup as veterans, while Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, and Webb Simpson will make their debut appearances. Team captain and AJGA alum Davis Love III will announce the four captains’ picks on Sept. 4.
