The American Junior Golf Association has presented the 2014 BilliardFactory.com Junior Championship hosted by Patrick Reed with the Tournament of the Year Award and the Charitable Giving Award. The tournament, which exceeded expectations in its contributions, was honored for providing the best overall experience for tournament participants, families, AJGA staff and volunteers.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am fundraising tournament, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with the highest media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and general manager, as well as the most improved event, best new event, best Junior All-Star tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Awards will be presented on-site at the 2015 tournament.

“We deeply appreciate both awards and thank Billiard Factory, The Woodlands Country Club, Patrick Reed, our committee, our volunteers and The Woodlands Community for their support,” said Tournament Chairman Bob Lewis. “We are most proud of our Charitable Giving Award as it reflects the passion we have to support the AJGA’s ACE Grant, helping provide more playing opportunities to junior golfers who lack financial resources.”

In 2014, the event contributed $62,000 to charitable organizations. Since its inception in 2011, the tournament has donated more than $117,000 to local charities and the AJGA Foundation.

Led by Lewis, the committee’s passion for the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant is what drove it to reach out and secure more tournament sponsors, including PGA TOUR player and AJGA alum Patrick Reed. The tournament also received support from a PGA Champions Tour event hosted annually at The Woodlands Country Club, the Insperity Invitational.

With increased sponsorship and over 100 volunteers, the committee enhanced the tournament experience for players by providing personalized stalls on the driving range, spotters on each hole, arcade games and an endless supply of ice cream for everyone’s enjoyment.

Lewis attributes the tournament’s success to the community’s involvement, as The Woodlands Country Club has an active and supportive membership that is dedicated to sharing and growing the game with juniors. The tournament, which earned the Volunteer Award in 2013, garners a strong volunteer base whose support extends beyond the tournament week.

“The key behind our tournament is the overall support,” Lewis said. “It’s the volunteers, the country club, the members and the community. We have over 100 volunteers and they not only volunteer their time, but also provide a charitable contribution to the ACE Grant and have a passion for junior golf.”

The tournament will return to the 2015 schedule as the Insperity Invitational AJGA Junior Championship hosted by Patrick Reed, June 15-18.
