Peter Ripa, former AJGA Assistant Executive Director, will serve as Tournament Director of the Farmers Insurance Open for his second year. Held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, the Farmers Insurance Open will be conducted Jan. 21-27.

Throughout his 16 years at the AJGA, Ripa served in different roles including Regional Director, Chief Operating Officer and Assistant Executive Director. He carried his experiences from the AJGA to the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, where he was Tournament Director from 2007 – 2011. In July 2011, Ripa began his post as the Farmers Insurance Open tournament director, and later became executive director of the Century Club at the conclusion of the 2012 event.

“Regardless of whether you’re playing or conducting an event for professionals, or have a budget with a few more zeros, the same principles apply,” Ripa said. “I worked at Innisbrook Resort for Stephen Hamblin before working at the AJGA and looked at him as a mentor for me professionally. He taught me to be a professional and hold high standards and not settle.”

This is the 46th time the event is being held at Torrey Pines Golf Course and the 51st year the Century Club of San Diego will be the nonprofit organization administering the tournament. This year’s field includes AJGA alumni Keegan Bradley, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Tiger Woods.

“When I look at how players mature as individuals as opposed to just players, some of the players I first started with (like Phil Mickelson, David Duval and Tiger Woods) had overall growth of the game,” Ripa said. “I look back and think these guys were just kids, but oddly enough they did look up to the AJGA staff and their values, as well as used the tournaments as proving ground and a test of their ability.”
