11 champions crowned in 4th of July events

Champion Interview

  • Miranda Wang of Pleasanton, California, won her second AJGA event and first invitational after finishing with a tournament total of 10-under-par 206. After a bogey-free second round, Wang was in the lead heading into the final round and carded five birdies, including one on No. 18 to claim the title by one stroke over Yujeong Son of Norman, Oklahoma.

Champions Interviews

  • Pierceson Coody of Plano, Texas,won the title in the Boys Division after a four-player, sudden-death playoff. Coody had five birdies in the final round for a 3-under-par 69 and a 1-over-par 214 total. He faced off against Cooper Dossey of Austin, Texas, Cash Carter of Dallas, Texas, and Travis Vick of Houston, and made birdie on the first playoff hole along with Travis Vick. Coody and Vick went on to play No. 18 again, and clinched his first AJGA victory with a par.
  • Second-round leader Kristen Gillman of Austin, Texas, won the Girls Division with a tournament total of 1-under-par 215. Gillman had 11 birdies on the week, five of those in the final round for a 1-under-par 71. This is Gillman’s third title of the year, the other two coming at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational and the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior at Horseshoe Bay.

Champions Interviews

 

  • Joe Highsmith of Lakewood, Washington, won the Boys Division after coming from behind to finish with a tournament total of even-par 210. Highsmith had six birdies in the final round for a 2-under-par 68. This was his first career AJGA victory.
  • Thanyawarat Temyord of Bangkok, Thailand, won the Girls Division with a tournament total of of 2-over-par 212. Temyord carded three birdies in the final round, including one on No. 17, to win her first AJGA event.

Champions Interviews

  • Devin Deogun of Orchard Lake, Michigan, won the Boys Division with a tournament total of 7-under-par 209. Deogun had nine birdies in his opening round for a 6-under-par 66. He maintained the Boys Division lead throughout all three rounds and carded 15 birdies on the week.
  • Reese Guzman of Kahului, Hawaii,won her second straight AJGA event with a tournament total of even-par 216. Guzman birdied No. 18 to win with a final round score of 3-under-par 69.

 Otter Creek Junior Championship

Champions Interviews

  • Allen Hamilton of Louisville, Kentucky, won the Boys Division after carding six birdies in his final round to shoot a 5-under-par 67. He had 14 birdies on the week for a tournament total of 11-under-par 205. This is Hamilton’s first AJGA victory, and he will be attending The University of Kentucky in the fall to continue his golf career.
  • Second-round leader Brooke Matthews of Rogers, Arkansas, won the Girls Division by two strokes with a tournament total of even-par 216. Matthews had two birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 in her final round 1-under-par 71. This was Matthews’ first AJGA victory.

Champions Interviews

  • Haeley Wotnosky of Wake Forest, North Carolina,won the Girls Division after carding six birdies in the final round for a 4-under-par 67 to force a playoff with Belinda Hu of San Ramon, California. Wotnosky was sixth heading into the final round and birdied the first playoff hole, No. 18, to take the title.
  • Jackson Rivera of Rancho Santa Fe, California, won his first AJGA event in the Boys Division with a tournament total of 2-under-par 211. Rivera was tied for third heading into the final round and carded three birdies for a 2-under-par 69.
