The Insperity Invitational / Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship presented by Callaway Golf has been named the recipient of the 2017 Charitable Giving Award and the Junior-Am Fundraising Award by the American Junior Golf Association.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with engaged media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and general manager, as well as the most improved event, best new event, best Junior Golf Hub Preview Series tournament, best ACDS Junior All-Star Series tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Tournament awards for the 2017 season will be presented on-site at 2018 tournaments.

The event was honored for its charitable contributions and its Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament as a part of the Transamerica Junior-Am Series. The tournament, hosted at The Woodlands Country Club, gave back more than $135,000 to the ACE Grant and local high school golf programs. In addition, after the Houston area was hit by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017, proceeds from the event helped to support the AJGA’s #HoustonStrong initiative, created by junior golfers.

“We are honored to have received the 2017 AJGA’s Charitable Giving Award and the Junior-Am Fundraising Award,” said Co-Tournament Chairs Bob Edwards and Bob Lewis. “The great participation we have from Insperity Invitational and Patrick and Justine Reed is key to our continued fundraising success in support of the ACE Grant. In addition, the enthusiasm of The Woodlands Country Club members and our community for our passion to support the ACE Grant and to help young men and women achieve college scholarship opportunities is a driving force in our fundraising.”

The tournament has won the Charitable Giving Award for donating the most money to charity each year since 2014 and has won the Junior-Am Fundraising Award for two consecutive years. In 2017, the event raised more than $133,000 specifically at the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament.

“We’re just happy to be involved with the AJGA,” said Bryan Naugle, executive director of the Insperity Invitational. “We think it’s a great way to contribute to not only our community but to give back to the game itself. The event has such high-quality people involved and we’re thrilled to be able to give so much money to the ACE Grant.”

The Insperity Invitational is a PGA TOUR Champions event entering its 10th year. The event has been a title sponsor of the AJGA tournament since 2015. Patrick Reed has hosted the event since 2014.

Naugle believes the AJGA’s emphasis on giving back carries over into the professional ranks.

“I think a perfect example of learning to give back at an early age is Patrick Reed,” said Naugle. “Patrick played with the AJGA, went on to play in college and now he’s giving back. There are a number of guys that have taken that path and it makes our game better.”

The AJGA will return to The Woodlands Country Club for the eighth consecutive year of the Insperity Invitational / Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship, June 18-21.
