Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, made history on Sunday when he joined LPGA player Paula Creamer as only the second person to win the PING Heather Farr Classic twice. The high school junior opened the tournament with a bogey-free 7-under-par 64 that was good enough for a four-stroke lead. His lead was cut to two after a second-round 2-under-par 69. Castillo managed to complete the wire-to-wire victory after posting a final-round 3-under-par 68 and defeating William Mouw of Chino, California, in a one-hole playoff. Castillo finished the tournament with 15 birdies. The University of Florida verbal commit is No. 7 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Serena Sepersky of Temecula, California, came from behind to win the PING Heather Farr Classic by one stroke over the 2017 Girl’s Division Champion Nicole Whiston of San Diego. Sepersky carded a first-round even-par 71 that included a birdie and a bogey. The 2017 Transamerica Scholastic Honor Roll member followed that up with a second-round 3-over-par 74 that included two birdies and an eagle. Sepersky found herself three strokes back entering the final round. Despite that deficit, the 2017 PING Heather Farr Classic runner-up would find redemption with a final-round even-par 71 that matched the lowest score of the final round and was enough to defeat Whiston by one stroke. This was Sepersky’s first AJGA victory. She is No. 24 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Oyo-IP-April6.jpg

Shiryu (Leo) Oyo of (Japan) San Diego, won the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Boys Junior Championship at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in epic fashion. The San Diego State University verbal commit entered the week fresh off a T5 finish at the Hunter Mahan Junior Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star the week prior. Oyo opened the tournament with an even-par 71 that left him two strokes off the lead. He shared the second-round lead with Karl Vilips of (Australia) Wesley Chapel, Florida, after posting a second-round 1-over-par 71 for a 36-hole total of 1-over-par 143. Oyo fired back to claim the title behind a final-round 3-under-par 69 that he finished off with a 50-foot birdie putt on No. 18. That was the first AJGA victory for Oyo, who is currently No. 23 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Khaing-IP-April6.jpg

Thin Khaing of Yangon, Myanmar, clinched the win at the TeensGiv.org Girls Junior All-Star presented by the Spinnaker Foundation at PGA National Resort & Spa. Khaing secured her first AJGA victory with a tournament-total of 9-under-par 207 that included 13 birdies. Khaing came into the second round one stroke behind Iris Cao of Duluth, Georgia, but Khaing would end the day as the solo leader behind her bogey-free 3-under-par 69. She locked up the five-stroke victory with a final-round 2-under-par 70. This was the 15-year-old’s first AJGA victory in her first-ever event.
