U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Preview

Four-Ball Championship

The 2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship is scheduled to take place May 19-23 at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Florida. Of the 256 players in the field, 136 are either current or former AJGA members.

Juniors Frankie Capan of North Oaks, Minnesota, and Shuai Ming Wong of (Hong Kong) The Woodlands, Texas, enter the tournament looking to defend their title at the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Capan and Wong were the youngest side to win the title, as they birdied five of their last eight holes to secure a 2-and-1 victory over AJGA-alumni Kyle Hudelson and Clark Collier at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.

Capan, a 2016 Rolex Junior All-American, is No. 15 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The Alabama commit has 10 top-10 finishes and three victories in AJGA events. His most recent victory came at the 2017 PING Heather Farr Classic . As a 16-year-old, Capan also participated in the 2016 PGA TOUR Puerto Rico Open after earning an exemption by winning the 2016 Puerto Rico Junior Open presented by EaglesDream Golf Academy .

Wong is ranked No. 3 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and was named a First Team Rolex Junior All-American in 2017 after earning four top-3 finishes in seven AJGA events. Wong’s best finish came at the 2017 The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf , where he needed a three-hole aggregate playoff to win the tournament. The Texas native also competed as a member of the 2017 Wyndham Cup West Team.

Another pairing ranked in the top-20 of the Rolex AJGA Rankings includes seniors Garrett Barber of Stuart, Florida, and Cole Hammer of Houston, Texas.

Barber, an LSU commit, is No. 7 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, and he has three career victories in AJGA events. The three-time Rolex Junior All-American has a 5-3-0 career record in two appearances with the Wyndham Cup East Team, and he also went 3-0-0 as a member of the 2017 United States Junior Presidents Cup Team.

Hammer is No. 18 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and has collected 16 top-10 finishes throughout his AJGA career. The University of Texas commit is 5-3-0 as a member of the Wyndham Cup West Team, and he went 1-1-1 as a member of the 2017 United States Junior Presidents Cup. team. A three-time Rolex Junior All-American, Hammer was also the third-youngest player to compete in the U.S. Open at age 15.
