AJGA updates Competitive Eligibility Criteria

The AJGA has updated its Competitive Eligibility Criteria, and the following criteria will become effective January 1, 2016.

  • Participation in AJGA events is reserved for amateur golfers
  • The minimum age requirement is 12 years old
  • Players who have not reached their 19th birthday AND have not graduated high school as of January 1, 2016 are eligible
  • Once a player starts college, they are no longer eligible, regardless of age

This Competitive Eligibility Criteria more closely aligns with the USGA and R&A, which recently modified their criteria. This change also strengthens the AJGA’s pursuit of its mission. With this criteria, national tournaments and exposure to college golf scholarship opportunities remain accessible to more high school seniors who have not yet signed a National Letter of Intent.

“The success of the Senior Showcase event has highlighted the importance of AJGA playing opportunities throughout a player’s senior year of high school,” said Mark Oskarson, AJGA Chief Operating Officer. “We feel this new criteria follows the USGA’s lead while staying true to our mission and purpose.”
