Davis Love III’s long history with the AJGA continues

By Ross Dickson, AJGA Communications

Davis Love III’s relationship with the AJGA continues this week as he is set to host his fourth Davis Love III Junior Open . The Davis Love III Foundation has now been supporting the AJGA since 2013 and will provide an opportunity for 78 players to showcase their skills around Brunswick Country Club, a new layout on the AJGA schedule.

The AJGA is familiar to Davis Love III. A promising junior in his own right, Love competed in both the 1981 and 1982 Rolex Tournament of Champions. After gaining his PGA TOUR card, Love was a National Chairman of the AJGA from 1995-1998, a position based on his continued involvement with the AJGA beyond his days as a junior. He then continued his AJGA connection through the support of his son, Dru, whose AJGA career was highlighted with a win at the 2010 E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by PotashCorp. Each of these events have played a key role in leading the 21-time PGA TOUR winner to hosting his own junior golf tournament.

Throughout his career on the PGA TOUR, Love has shown appreciation for the work of the AJGA. Talking ahead of Dru’s PGA TOUR debut at the 2015 RSM Classic, Love referenced the AJGA when talking about the status of golf’s youth.

“Obviously, the AJGA has done an incredible job of preparing them as golfers to go to college,” Love said. “I learned to play competitive golf basically in amateur golf and college. They’ve already figured it out by the time they get to high school.”

The Davis Love III Junior Open is set to start Tuesday, June 7, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Be sure to follow updates from the event via TaylorMade-adidas Golf Live Scoring , @AJGAMedia and using the #DL3JrOpen hashtag.
