New leaders emerge ahead of Moving Day

For the first time in six competitive rounds at The Country Club of Rochester, new leaders emerged at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship during the second round. Micheala Williams of Athens, Alabama, and Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, shot the tournament-low round scores of 2-over-par 72. The day was difficult overall for scoring, as just five players matched the low total. 2014 Rolex Girls Junior Championship winner and 2016 first-round leader Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, California, paced the field during the five previous rounds including when she won wire-to-wire. As experienced players, Williams and Kim are both chasing their first AJGA Invitational win this week.

Volunteers make unique tournament experience

More than 200 volunteers will help conduct the 25th edition of the Rolex Girls Junior Championship in various capacities on the golf course, including peanut butter and jelly sandwich makers at the Amino VITAL® Focus Zone, Leupold® Pace of Play timing stations, standard bearers and TaylorMade-adidas Golf Live Scoring entry volunteers and walking scorers with each group. Volunteer chairman Jane Gorsline is coordinating efforts.

After the second round, decorated AJGA and North Carolina alumnus, media personality and one of the nation's top golf instructors Debbie Doniger spoke to the field at the annual Players Dinner. While an AJGA player, Doniger had five top-10 finishes and was named a Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-American.  She encouraged players to seek out a network in golf, learn a wide range of skills and be mindful of fitness while pursuing their goals on the course. During the evening, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about preparing for college golf and beyond.
