Dominant Leaders

Canon Claycomb (-5) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Jayna Choi (-5) of Collierville, Tennessee, go into Thursday having been at the top since the conclusion of the first round. Claycomb and Choi will be paired together for the final round of play, though this will not be the first time the two meet. The twosome competed together in last year’s Evian Championship Juniors Cup in Evian-les-Bains, France for Team USA. Claycomb is in search of his first AJGA victory, though he already has five top five finishes under his belt. This would be Choi’s third AJGA title.

The Deciding Day of Play

After a dominant outing by the girls during the first round, the boys came back to shoot a team total of 9-under-par for the second round. This resurgence was due in large part to Claycomb, Karl Vilips (-2) of Melbourne, Australia, and Aaron Chen (E) of Fremont, California, who all shot under par on the day. With each side having one victory under their belt, even more is at stake for the juniors going into the final round.

A Star Emerges

Harmie Constantino of Taguig, Philippines, finished the second round in solo second place with a 1-under-par 143. This is Constantino’s third AJGA event in three weeks.  Both of Constantino’s past appearances resulted in victories, with her claiming the title at the Under Armour®/ Gary Woodland Championship and at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Lost Springs presented by Visit Bentonville located just 20 miles down the road. These two victories have bolted Constantino up to No. 97 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Trailing Choi by four strokes heading into the final round, Constantino will be seeking a 3-0 record in AJGA events.
