Three Things for Thursday at Wyndham Cup

Leading 16-14, the West Team needs to earn nine points Thursday to retain the Wyndham Cup , while the East needs 25.5 points to win. Here are Three Things to know before the 20 singles matches begin at The Stanwich Club.

Match play rematches, Part I

Two of the boys matches feature rematches from recent major tournaments. At the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Classic, Ryan Gerard (East) defeated Cooper Dossey (West), 2 and 1, in the finals at PGA National Resort & Spa's Champion Course. Their rematch will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Last week, John Pak (East) and Noah Goodwin (West) met in the semifinals at the U.S. Junior Amateur, and Goodwin prevailed in 20 holes. Over the last seven days, Goodwin's match play record is 8-1-0 (3-0-0 Wyndham Cup, 5-1-0 U.S. Junior), while Pak is 5-2-1 (1-1-1 Wyndham Cup, 4-1-0 U.S. Junior). Their rematch will begin at 10:10 a.m.

Match play rematches, Part II

Ana Paula Valdes (East) and Alyaa Abdulghany (West) are both Wyndham Cup veterans, and they will square off in the anchor match at 10:40 a.m. Valdes and Abdulghany met in the second round at the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Classic, with Abdulghany winning 2 and 1. This week, Valdes is 3-0-0 and Abdulghany is 2-1-0.
