LPGA Tour
AJGA alumna Brittany Lincicome held off several Americans at the top of the leaderboard on January 29 to become the LPGA Tour’s first champion of 2017 at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. Lincicome birdied No. 18 in regulation before birdying it again in a playoff to top runner-up Lexi Thompson and finish only one stroke shy of the LPGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record at 26-under-par 266.
Lincicome was a five-time Rolex Junior All-American from 2000-04 and won her first-ever AJGA event in 2000 at the AJGA Tampa Bay Classic. Lincicome’s victory was her first since the 2015 ANA Inspiration and seventh victory overall.
Thompson was also an accomplished junior golfer during her AJGA career. Thompson was a three-time Rolex Junior All-American and won five nationally-recognized junior golf tournaments in 2009 alone, including the Junior PGA Championship and the Polo Golf Junior Classic. Lincicome and Thompson each competed for the Wyndham Cup’s East Team: Lincicome from 2001-04 and Thompson from 2007-08.
Stacy Lewis, AJGA alumna and host of the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational, finished solo third including a third-round 10-under-par 63. LPGA Tour rookie Nelly Korda, who finished her AJGA career with back-to-back Invitational wins in 2015, finished T5.
PGA TOUR
While the story of the tournament was Jon Rahm’s 60-foot eagle putt on No. 18, the top 10 at the Farmers Insurance Open was full of AJGA alumni. Charles Howell III birdied No. 18 to secure his highest finish since 2013 at T2. C.T. Pan, a member of the heralded class of 2011, joined Howell III at T2 for the best finish of his young career.
The top 10 included impressive representation from the Wyndham Cup’s East Team. Along with Howell III, Patrick Rodgers (T4), Brian Harman (T9) and Oliver Schniederjans (T9) each wore red for the East squad during their time with the AJGA. All four were Rolex Junior All-Americans.
Web.com Tour
AJGA alum Andrew Landry won his second career Web.com Tour title on January 25 with a tournament total of 16-under-par 272. Landry competed with the AJGA in 2004 and was a Leadership Links participant.
Zecheng Dou, a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and 2012 Wyndham Cup Participant, finished solo third after a final-round 5-under-par 67.
