TOUR Highlights: May 22

LPGA Tour

AJGA alumna Lexi Thompson won the Kingsmill Championship presented by JTBC on May 21 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Thompson shot a tournament-record 20-under-par 264 to give herself a five-stroke lead over the rest of the field. This marks her eighth victory on Tour since turning professional in 2012.

Thompson had an impressive run with the AJGA from 2007-09. During her AJGA career she garnered three first-team Rolex Junior All-America awards, and finished in the top-10 28 times in 37 events, including nine tournament wins.

PGA TOUR

Billy Horschel, a 30-year-old AJGA alum, won the PGA TOUR’s AT&T Byron Nelson in a playoff on May 21. Horschel finished the final round tied with Jason Day at 12-under-par 268. He then parred the first hole of the playoff to win by one stroke.

Horschel competed in numerous events with the AJGA. His top finishes included T8 at the 2004 First American Title Avila Junior Classic, and T2 at the 2005 PING Junior at Marisol. Horschel went on to compete at the University of Florida, where he would play from 2005-09.

Tyler Duncan and Andrew Yun finished T2 the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation with Xinjun Zhang on May 21. The AJGA alumni both shot an 18-under-par 196, which was just one stroke shy of the tournament’s champion Stephan Jaeger.

Duncan played with the AJGA in 2007. His highest finish was T5 at the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior in Ashland, Kentucky. Duncan joined the professional circuit in 2012 after attending Purdue University.

Yun, a three-time first-team Rolex Junior All-American, partook in AJGA events from 2004-2009. During this time, he accumulated 22 top-five finishes including four wins. Yun went on to play golf for Stanford University before turning professional in 2013.
