Thornberry Receives Haskins Award

On June 7, Braden Thornberry, a sophomore at Ole Miss, was honored with the Fred Haskins Award.

The Fred Haskins Award is given annually to an outstanding men’s college golfer in memory of its namesake. Haskins was known for his dedication to mentoring young golfers. Thornberry joins the ranks of powerful professional players, such as Justin Thomas (2012), Bill Haas (2004) and Hunter Mahan (2003).

In his two-year career as a Rebel, Thornberry has earned five victories and seven top-five finishes. In May, the 20-year-old was named to the PING Southeast All-Region Team. Within days, he claimed the NCAA Individual Championship at 11-under-par 277 and became the first Ole Miss player to do so.

Thornberry competed with the AJGA from 2011-15 during which time he was named a Rolex Junior All-American three times. Thornberry, a member of the 2015 Wyndham Cup East Team, amassed four AJGA wins while a junior including:

  • 2012 Evitt Foundation RTC Junior All-Star
  • 2013 AJGA Otter Creek Junior Championship presented by Circle K
  • 2014 Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Junior Championship
  • 2015 AJGA Otter Creek Junior Championship presented by Circle K

Since his NCAA Championship win, Thornberry has already teed it up at his first PGA TOUR event, the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. Follow Braden Thornberry’s progress here  throughout the weekend.
