Kwon in second place at the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship

MALVERN, Pa.- After the second round of the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., shot a competitive course record by knocking down a 4-under-par 67 at White Manor Country Club. Her tournament total 137 puts her two shots ahead of Diane Kwon of Fremont, Calif., who delivered a 3-under-par 139 tournament total.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event held at White Manor Country Club. This is one of two girls-only Invitational events the AJGA holds each season. The 78-player field features players from 21 states, Canada and Peru. The par-71 course is being played at 6,118 yards.

Hurst, who won the Birks & Mayors Junior Championship at Mirasol earlier this season, said her plan to win her first Invitational is to eliminate bogeys, play a steady round and make putts.

“Not much is going to change tomorrow,” Hurst said. “This year, I'm trying to keep my head there.”

Hurst also said she enjoys the camaraderie of an all-girl tournament such as this one.

“Some of these girls are my best friends,” Hurst said. “I love coming in the summertime and getting back together with them.”

Coming in second place is Kwon who carded a 3-under-par 139 tournament total. Allie White tied the competitive course record by shooting a 4-under-par 67 leaving her alone in third with a 1-under-par 141 tournament total.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.

Final-round tee times will run from 8-10 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. For more information about the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, please contact tournament headquarters at (770) 601-5196, or visit ajga.org.
