Performance Based Entry Fills Out Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic Field

RINGGOLD, Ga. — Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms forced the American Junior Golf Association Tournament Committee to cancel the AJGA Qualifier for the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic Sunday. Eleven boys and three girls were selected via Performance Based Entry to compete in the tournament June 2-5 at WindStone Golf Club.

“It was unfortunate weather did not cooperate for our qualifier today,” said AJGA Tournament Director Preston Etheridge. “Our number one priority is the safety of our members, while doing all we can to play golf. We're hoping it clears up and are looking forward to a great week here in Ringgold.”

Qualifying in the Boys Division were Jack Adkins of Martinsville, Va., Will England of Gainesville, Ga., Charlie Harrison of Atlanta, Hunter Keener of Dalton, Ga., Nathan Kerns of Ironton, Ohio, James Olley of Woodstock, Ga., Brett Patterson of McMinnville, Tenn., Brad Sill of Duncan, S.C., Walker Sullivan of Atlanta, Jack Walsh of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Nicklaus Ward of Fayetteville, Ga.

The qualifiers in the Girls Division consisted of Shelby Gilbert of Hixson, Tenn., Amelia Hill of Saint Simons Island, Ga., and Taylor Manning of Brentwood, Tenn.

All other participants who did not withdraw prior to the cancellation of the AJGA Qualifier received a $25 refund and one performance star.

First-, second-, and final-round tee times for the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic will run from 7:30 a.m.-12:18 p.m., June 3-5, off the No. 1 tee at the WindStone Golf Club.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 25 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
