LANGLEY CAPTURES AJGA KNOXVILLE JUNIOR OPEN AT 7-UNDER-PAR 209
Kiser wins third AJGA title of the year with 5-under-par 211
LOUDON, Tenn. – Brian Langley of Blacksburg, Va., won the AJGA Knoxville Junior Open with a three-round total of 7-under-par 209 at Tennessee National Golf Club. Victoria Kiser of Orlando, Fla., notched her third AJGA victory of 2008 with a score of 5-under-par 211.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Knoxville Junior Open was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Tennessee National Golf Club. The tournament field consisted of 75 boys and 23 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states and Italy. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 7,210 yards, while the Girls Division played at 6,187 yards.
Langley earned his first-career AJGA title with a round of 2-under-par 70 on Thursday that included three birdies on the final five holes.
“It’s pretty cool right now; it hasn’t really sunk in,” Langley said. “It proves a lot, and it lets me know that I can do it.”
Finishing in a tie for second place at 5-under-par 211 were Marshall Talkington of Jackson, Tenn., and Jacob Everts of Ooltewah, Tenn. Colin Chapman of Franklin, N.C., finished in fourth place at 4-under-par 212. Rounding out the top-five was John Skeadas of Savannah, Ga., at 3-under-par 213.
Kiser fired a round of even-par 72 on Thursday, tying for low-round of the day in the Girls Division. In addition to this title, Kiser captured the First American Title Junior Classic and The Club Car Junior hosted by Charles Howell III earlier this summer.
“I knew coming into the year that if I played my best I could win every week I played,” Kiser said.
Erica Popson of Davenport, Fla., finished in second place at 2-over-par 218. In third place at 4-over-par 220 was Haley Stephens of Greer, S.C.
