ROMEO MAKES A MOVE TO LEAD BY ONE STROKE AT NEMACOLIN JUNIOR CLASSIC
Lee Dominates Girls Division by five strokes at Mystic Rock

FARMINGTON, Pa. — Austin Romeo of Erie, Pa., started off strong Wednesday morning with a first-round score of 5-under-par 67 to lead the Boys Division at the Nemacolin Junior Classic. Suzie Lee of E. Northport, N.Y., carded 4-under-par 68 in the first round to take the lead in the Girls Division.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Nemacolin Junior Classic is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort — Mystic Rock Course. The tournament field consists of 105 Boys and 38 Girls, ages 12-18, from 23 states, Canada, Indonesia and Mexico. The par-72 course is being played at 6,978 yards for the Boys Division and 6,137 yards for the Girls Division.

Romeo's game was on fire starting out his second AJGA event of the year after making birdies on Nos. 1, 4, 8, 11 and 16 and not a single bogey to finish 2-under-par 34 on his first nine and 3-under-par 33 on his second nine.

“I hit every fairway and never got in to any trouble which was great,” said Romeo. “My putting also contributed to my score with no three-putts.”

Romeo kept his cool with a par on his most challenging hole of the day, the 444-yard par-4 ninth hole.

“The last hole was playing tough because of the water on the left and it was a long hole so I was excited about making par,” said Romeo.

Han Kim of Lake Mary, Fla., and Motin Yeung of Orlando, Fla., begin the second round in a tie for second place after posting first-round scores of 4-under-par 68. Rounding out the Boys Division in a tie for fourth with first-round scores of 3-under-par 69 are Cyril Suk of Bradenton, Fla., and Sam Bernstein of Riverdale, N.Y.

In the Girls Division, Lee made the front nine look easy after dropping two birdies and barely missing a double eagle for a 3-under-par 33.

“I drove the No. 8 fairway then used my 5-wood and stuck it close to the pin for almost a double eagle,” said Lee.

Lee said her shots contributed to her hitting most greens in regulation to finish the round at 4-under-par 68.

Harin Lee of Bayside, N.Y., finished second at 1-over-par 73. Tied for third are Regina Alonso of Huixquilucan, Mexico, and Sun Gyoung Park of Vail, Ariz., at 2-over-par 74.
