BRASELTON, Ga. – American Junior Golf Association member Canon Claycomb and The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Kentucky, have partnered to create the Mason Cup, benefiting the Mason Goodnight Foundation, starting in 2018.

The Mason Cup, part of the AJGA’s State Cup Series, will be a two-day Ryder Cup-style tournament held at The Club at Olde Stone, featuring 28 participants from around the country. Participants will be divided into two teams in a head-to-head competition with each junior responsible for raising at least $1,000. The State Cup Series, a series of junior-led fundraising tournaments, is a branch of the AJGA’s Leadership Links program, which helps develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the ACE Grant.

Proceeds will help benefit the AJGA’s ACE Grant program and the Mason Goodnight Foundation, started in 2017 to honor Mason Goodnight, who passed away suddenly in April 2017. The Foundation supports youth in Bowling Green and surrounding communities.

“On behalf of the board members of the Mason Goodnight Foundation, my wife, Janna, my daughter, Maggie, and myself, we are humbled and honored that Canon Claycomb, The Club at Olde Stone and the AJGA are hosting the Mason Cup,” Jef Goodnight said. “Mason had a love and passion for all sports, and his foundation provides kids in our area with scholarships and trips to enjoy experiences, play sports or attend camps.  We want to carry on Mason’s legacy through giving back to kids, and the Mason Cup will greatly benefit the community through his Foundation.”

Claycomb, a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and verbal commit to the University of Alabama, has participated in Leadership Links since 2016. Goodnight was a close family friend, and Claycomb chose to honor him through Leadership Links and has personally raised more than $1,000 already. Claycomb is No. 7 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and competed on the 2017 Junior Presidents Cup United States team.

“I am thrilled about the inaugural Mason Cup at The Club at Olde Stone,” Claycomb said. “I’m so very thankful to the AJGA and The Club at Olde Stone along with the amazing people of Bowling Green for their support of the Mason Goodnight Foundation and my junior career. I’m looking forward to bringing the top junior golfers to my hometown for this amazing event supporting a charity so near to my heart.”

The Claycomb family are long-time members of The Club at Olde Stone, and Mason’s family live close to the course.

“The Club at Olde Stone is thrilled to host the inaugural Mason Cup,” Director of Golf & Operations Kevin Childers said. “We are honored to support Mason’s passion for youth sports and his foundation for many years to come.”

The event will take place August 24-26, 2018. To support Claycomb’s efforts, visit ajga.org/ll. For more information, please contact Laura Fellwock (lfellwock@ajga.org) in the AJGA Communications Department at (678) 425-1795, or visit ajga.org.
