34 AJGA alumnae earn LPGA status

The LPGA Tour hosted the inaugural LPGA Q-Series presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina at Pinehurst Resort.

Out of the 48 players who earned LPGA Tour status at the inaugural LPGA Q-Series presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, 34 of them participated in AJGA events as part of their national junior golf experience.

A total of 102 players completed eight rounds of two, four-day tournaments from Oct. 24-27 at Pinehurst Course No. 6 and Oct. 31-Nov. 3 on Pinehurst Course No. 7.  The top-45 finishers and ties received LPGA membership in Category 14 on the LPGA Priority List and remaining competitors included Symetra Tour status.

Notable recipients with AJGA ties include:

Alison Lee

Lee was a six-time Rolex Junior All-American and the 2013 Rolex Junior Player of the Year. Before playing college golf at UCLA, Lee won nine AJGA events from 2007-2013 including the Rolex Tournament of Champions, Rolex Girls Junior Championship, ANNIKA Invitational, The PING Invitational and two wins at the ClubCorp Mission Hills Dessert Junior.  Lee has continued her involvement with the AJGA by hosting her own event, the Under Amour ® / Alison Lee Championship in Southern California, which will be in its fourth year in 2019.

Youngin Chun

Chun earned five AJGA wins in three years from 2015-2017 and was a four-time Rolex Junior All-American. During her win at the 2017 Callaway Golf Junior Classic, Chun set a new course record in the final round with a score of 8-under-par 64. She was also a three-time Wyndham Cup participant with an overall record of 6-3-3.

Lauren Stephenson

Stephenson posted six AJGA victories from 2011-2014 and was named a Rolex Junior All-American three times in her career. Before playing college golf at Clemson University, Stephenson was a member of the 2014 and 2015 Wyndham Cup East Teams with a career match-play record of 5-2-1.

Lilia Vu

Vu was named a Rolex Junior All-American three times from 2010-2014. During her career, Vu won three AJGA tournament titles to go along with 14 more top-five AJGA finishes. Vu, who played college golf at UCLA, was a member of the 2013 Wyndham Cup West Team where she posted a 3-0-1 record.

Kristen Gillman

Gillman accumulated five national junior golf victories from 2010-2016, including three AJGA tournament titles. The four-time Rolex Junior All-American won the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and she was a member of the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup Team where she posted a perfect 3-0-0 record. Gillman, who played college golf at the University of Alabama, was also a member of the 2014 Wyndham Cup West Team and the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.
