The inaugural Alabama Cup, part of The State Cup Series, kicked off this weekend at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, Alabama. American Junior Golf Association members Gordon Sargent and Reynolds Lambert spearheaded the event which benefitted Children’s Harbor, the Alabama Chapter of the American Cancer Society and the AJGA’s ACE Grant Program. Twenty-four juniors from all over Alabama traveled to Shoal Creek for a Ryder Cup-style event where they were responsible to fundraise a minimum of $1,000 as a requirement to compete. The Juniors involved in the event collectively raised $57,000 for the charities and were led by Sargent, Reynolds and Matt Brown who raised over $21,000 combined. Teams were led by Honorary Captains Trey Mullinax and Casey Wittenberg who have seven amateur wins and seven professional wins combined in their careers.

The State Cup Series, a series of junior-led fundraising tournaments, is a branch of the AJGA’s Leadership Links program, which helps develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the ACE Grant.

Sargent is a Rolex Junior All-American and has two AJGA career wins. In 2018, he has raised more than $8,000 benefitting Children’s Harbor, the Alabama Chapter of the American Cancer Society and the ACE Grant Program. Sargent is No. 14 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Lambert is a two-time Transamerica Scholastic Honor Roll member and has a win at the 2018 Scott Stallings Junior Championship presented by Pilot Flying J. In 2018, he has raised over $6,000 for the Children’s Harbor and the Alabama Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
