TOUR Highlights: August 29, 2016

Three AJGA Alumni claim titles at The Barclays, WinCo Foods Portland Open and the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open.

PGA TOUR

Tournament host and AJGA alum Patrick Reed won at The Barclays Sunday, carding a tournament total of 9-under-par 275. Reed battled on the course with Rickie Fowler, but clinched the win and a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team after Fowler had a string of bad holes on the back nine the during the final round. Reed’s strong lead held his position atop the leaderboard even after bogeying his final hole and posting 1-under-par 71 at BethPage State Park - Black. Fowler finished tied for seventh with Jason Kokrak and Ryan Moore, at 6-under-par 278. Emiliano Grillo tied for second at 8-under-par 276 with Sean O’Hair. Gary Woodland finished tied for fourth with Jason Day and Adam Scott at 7-under-par 277. Lastly, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas rounded out the top-10 at 5-under-par 279.  

Reed has hosted an AJGA tournament for the last three years. In 2014, he hosted his first, the BilliardFactory.com Junior Championship hosted by Patrick Reed . His second in 2015, the
Insperity Invitational AJGA Junior Championship hosted by Patrick Reed
and his third this year, the Insperity Invitational / Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship presented by Callaway Golf .

In his junior years, Reed played in 28 AJGA events, won the 2005 True Temper/David Gossett Junior Championship and had 12 top-20 finishes.

Fowler partnered with the AJGA Leadership Links program in 2014 and each year plays six holes of golf with the top-three juniors who raise the most money for their charities. In his AJGA career, Fowler was a 2005 and 2006 Rolex Junior All-American and won the 2004 Nike Golf Junior at Louisville and the 2006 CB&I/Simplify Boys Junior Championship at Carlton Woods (HP Boys Junior Championship).

In his AJGA days, Grillo participated in 17 events, 14 of which were Invitational appearances. He won the 2009 PING Invitational and was a 2009 and 2010 Rolex Junior All-American.

Kokrak played in nine AJGA events mostly in 2001, including the Hudson Junior Invitational, AJGA Arizona Junior Classic, AJGA Kroger Junior Invitational, Independent Insurance Agents Jr. Classic and North & South Junior.

Moore, Spieth, Thomas and Woodland all hosted AJGA tournaments events in 2016:

In their AJGA careers, the four combined have played in 71 events.

Web.com Tour

Despite entering the final round sharing the lead, Ryan Brehmn took the trophy at the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented Kraft-Heinz, claiming his first Web.com Tour victory.  Brehm posted 3-under-par 68 in the final round, finishing at 15-under-par 269 for the tournament.  The 30-year-old won by one-stroke over Mark Anderson who finished at 14-under- 268. Brehm and Anderson earned their PGA TOUR cards at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Zack Fischer placed third at 13-under-par 271. Chris Baker, Reid Edstrom, Rhein Gibson, Kyoung-Hoon Lee, Jack Maguire and Ted Potter Jr. finished tied for fourth at 12- under-par 272.

In his junior career, Brehm played in two AJGA events: the 2000 AJGA Compaq Junior All-Star Classic at EagleRidge and 2001 AJGA Buick Junior Open.

Anderson played in seven tournaments during his three-year AJGA career including an appearance at the 2004 Haas Family Invitational, previously known as the FootJoy Boys Invitational.

While playing AJGA, Fischer participated in the 2005 True Temper/David Gossett Junior Championship, 2005 Nike Golf Junior at Colonial presented by Mississippi Farm, the 2006 Action/Bob Estes Abilene Junior and the 2006 AJGA Junior at Oak Tree.

Alum Baker was named 2002 AJGA Scholastic Junior All-American. He played in the 2003 Polo Golf Junior Classic and placed fifth in the 2004 PING Indianapolis Junior.

Maguire competed in 27 AJGA events, with 12 top-20 finishes and was a 2012 Second-Team Rolex Junior All-American.

Web.com doled out 25 PGA TOUR cards after the WinCo Foods Portland Open.  Joining Brehmn and Anderson, the following AJGA Alumni received a PGA TOUR card this weekend:

LPGA Tour

Ariya Jutanugarn claimed her fifth LPGA Tour victory at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Jutanugarn sunk a 12-foot birdie on her final hole for a 6-under-par 66, posting a 23-under-par 265 tournament total. The 20-year-old finished four strokes ahead of Sei Young Kim. Anna Nordvist tied with Karrie Webb for fifth at 15-under-par 273. Alison Lee, Chella Choi and Lydia Ko tied for seventh at 13-under-par 275. Stephanie Meadow, Mo Martin, Suzann Petterson, and Ayako Uehara finished tied for tenth at 12-under-par 276.

In her AJGA career, Jutanugarn won four tournaments including the 2011 Rolex Girls Junior Championship, the 2012 Polo Golf Junior Classic, the 2012 Rolex Girls Junior Championship and 2012 Thunderbird International Junior. In 2011 and 2012, she was named Rolex Junior Player of the Year. Jutanugarn was a 2010, 2011 and 2012 Rolex Junior All-American.

Nordqvist placed fifth in the 2005 Polo Golf Junior Classic and finished T22 in the 2005 Thunderbird International Junior.

Lee hosted her first AJGA tournament, the Under Armour® / Alison Lee Championship this year. In her AJGA career, she won nine tournaments and had 28 top-10 finishes.

Meadow was a 2010 Rolex Junior All-American and won two events: 2009 AJGA Cliffs Championship and 2010 AJGA Junior at Innisbrook.

European Tour

David Lipsky finished two strokes behind the winner, Thomas Pieters, at Made in Denmark this weekend. Lipsky and Adrian Otaegui tied for fourth at 15-under-par 269.  Paul Dunne also placed in the top-10, coming in tied for tenth with Mikael Lundberg and Richard Sterne at 9-under-par 275.

Lipsky recorded four top-10 finishes in AJGA events. Dunne made appearances at the 2008 and 2009 the Junior PLAYERS Championship.

Champions Tour

Austin Woody and Brandt Jobe finished in the top-10 at the Boeing Classic. Woody was in a sudden death playoff with Bernhard Langer and Kevin Sutherland, which resulted in Langer sinking a 3-foot birdie on the first hole to claim the title. Woody and Sutherland landed tied in second at 13-under-par 203. Jobe finished tied for sixth with Stephen Ames, Tom Byrum, Joe Durant, and Fred Funk at 10-under-par 206.

Woody played in three AJGA events, including two appearances at the 1981-82 Rolex Tournament of Champions and the 1982 SixFlags Junior Classic. Jobe competed in the 1982 Insurance Youth Classic.
