September 5. 2016 - Alexa Pano becomes youngest champion in AJGA history

The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf

  • Khavish Varadan of Wesley Chapel, Florida, earned his first Invitational victory in a sudden-death playoff with a 10-under-par 206 tournament total.
  • In just his fourth AJGA start, Varadan edged out Cole Hammer of Houston after Hammer led for 53 holes. Varadan was named to the 2016 ACDS Junior All-Star Team the week of the tournament and has finished inside the top-10 in each of his four appearances.

AJGA Girls Championship

  • Emily Hawkins of Lexington, North Carolina, earned her first AJGA victory with a 6-under-par 210 tournament total. She had previously finished T2 at the AJGA Preview at Carolina Trace.
  • Hawkins notched four straight birdies to close out the front nine in her final round, giving her the edge over Rachel Heck of Memphis, Tennessee, and Brooke Sansom of Pike Road, Alabama, who finished at 5-under-par 211.

Sunriver Junior Open

  • Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake, California, ran away with the Boys Division with a 14-under-par tournament total 199. Xiong carded 15 birdies on the week to earn his second Sunriver Junior Open title. The two-time Rolex Junior All-American also won the Thunderbird International Junior and the Junior PGA Championship in 2016 and is verbally committed to the University of Oregon.
  • Euna Han of Coquitlam, British Columbia, earned her first AJGA victory in playoff fashion over Tiffany Kong of Vancouver, British Columbia. The three-hole playoff ended with Han making birdie on the par-4 No. 12 to win at 4-over-par 217.

PDQ/Philadelphia Runner Junior

  • Alexa Pano of Lake Worth, Florida, became the youngest AJGA champion at 12 years and 11 days at 5-under-par 211. This was only Pano's second AJGA apperance after she finished 12th at the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Sugarloaf. Pano earned her five-stroke victory with 10 birdies throughout the tournament. Pano also made history as the youngest golfer to ever play in an LPGA of Japan Tour event at 11 years old.
  • Jacob Bayer of Lawrenceville, Georgia, earned his first AJGA victory with a 3-under-par 213 tournament total. Bayer edged out Alex Jamieson of Duxbury, Massachusetts, and Justin Lane of Woodstock, New York, by one stroke. Bayer also finished second at the Rome Junior classic presented by State Mutual Insurance Company and is verbally committed to Western Kentucky University.
